WAGE RATE: $38.36 – $48.88

Reporting to the Manager, the Recreation Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic recreation services to stroke clients served by the Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team. Services to be provided in a variety of settings with a focus on helping individuals gain independence, reintegrate in their community, and pursue leisure and recreational activities that are meaningful and satisfying to them. The therapeutic recreation therapist is an expert in stroke care and is a highly motivated member of a collaborative inter-professional team delivering an innovative rehabilitation service to help patients and their caregivers reach their optimal level of recovery.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • University Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with Therapeutic Recreation Focus or University Degree in Human Sciences or Services with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation
  • Current registration with Therapeutic Recreation of Ontario (TRO)
  • Clinical expertise and experience in stroke rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current stroke rehabilitation best practices
  • Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
  • Ability to assess, plan and implement a personalized approach to service delivery within the guidelines of the Therapeutic Recreation Service Model in accordance with TRO standards of practice
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving and innovation skills
  • Willingness to flex time and responsibilities to meet patient needs
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Appreciation of resource utilization and comfortable working in a virtual environment
  • Ability to work with and direct support personnel
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Valid driver’s license and insurance coverage for extensive travel mostly within Grey Bruce on a daily basis
  • Ability to work all shifts and provide multi-site coverage as required
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record

Preferred:

  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification
