The Manager of Quality and Patient Safety reports to the Director of Quality, Safety and Risk and supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Quality & Patient Safety operational workplans aligned to strategic priorities and the corporate quality improvement strategy. They develop and coordinate an integrated approach to quality in a manner that promotes psychological safety, through the ownership and leadership of quality and process improvement initiatives, and the overseeing of quality and safety programs that are patient safety centric.
The Manager, Quality & Patient Safety, leads, plans, supports and evaluates reviews of patient safety incidents, serious safety events and critical incidents, or any other incidents that may lead to complaint investigations or medical and legal review. This includes Accreditation and other work necessary to maintain quality care and patient safety at Brightshores.
As a member of the Quality, Safety and Risk department, the Manager of Quality and Patient Safety works collaboratively with the Manager of Patient Experience and Manager of Clinical Practice to identify and address quality and safety issues identified in those areas.
Qualifications
Required
- Undergraduate degree in health care profession
- Master’s degree in Quality Improvement or Healthcare Administration
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in progressively responsible roles related to process improvement, quality management, or healthcare operations.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in a healthcare/clinical environment, with knowledge of hospital operations
- LEAN/Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience and knowledge with patient safety and quality projects or initiatives, electronic clinical incident management systems, performance measurement, data reporting analysis, quality improvement principles and Quality of Care Reviews.
- Evidence of experience using a variety of quality tools, techniques and processes i.e. PDSA, RCA, FMEA, Quintuple AIM, SWAT, GAP analysis, etc.
- Proficient knowledge of legislation and regulatory environment applicable to hospitals/healthcare including the Excellent Care for All Act, Quality of Care Information Protection Act & Privacy Act
- Demonstrated experience using data measurement and analysis pertaining to risk, quality and patient safety
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a healthcare environment
- Demonstrated skill in change management and ability to lead through transitions
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated experience with policy & procedure development, program evaluation and quality improvement tools and techniques
- Highly superior interpersonal, communication and staff development skills
- Effective problem-solving, decision-making and organizational skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
- Ability to prioritize and manage time and resources
- Ability to interact effectively with stakeholders, physicians, senior management, Board, Community partners and clinical/technical staff
- Valid driver’s license for travel
- Available for regular assignment of Hospital Administrator on-call responsibilities (assigned on a rotating basis to cover evenings and weekends)
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
