WAGE RATE: $26.020 – $28.046

Reporting to the Manager, the Ward Clerk is responsible for facilitating the flow of patient care efficiently and safely through accurate and timely completion of assigned duties. Patient care is provided with an interdisciplinary focus. The Ward Clerk is required to work with all members of the Health Care Team in a collaborative manner. The Ward Clerk will demonstrate a high degree of productivity and excellent written and verbal communication towards patients, families and staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Secondary School Diploma with relevant administrative/secretarial experience or post-secondary business/office administration diploma
  • Recent ward clerk experience with demonstrated competencies in Care Net/Cerner order entry
  • Carenet training & experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word (to be tested)
  • Typing speed of 30 wpm (to be tested)
  • Knowledge of medical terminology (to be tested)
  • Ability to complete payroll in Medipay
  • Independent problem solving & decision making skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
  • Availability to work 12 and 8 hour shifts including weekends
  • Recent satisfactory attendance and performance records
  • Knowledge of and adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence)
  • Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes

Preferred

  • Ward Clerk Certificate Program
  • Familiarity with Service Ontario Birth Registration Process
  • Experience in Ontario health coverage process and policies (ability to issue health cards appropriately)
  • Knowledge of Newborn Screening tests & follow-up process
  • Knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative
  • Ability to reconcile BORN statistics
