When Karinna Wagenaar welcomed her daughter Eleanor into the world, she was profoundly touched by the compassionate and supportive care of her nurse, Amanda. So much so that she penned a heartfelt poem in Amanda’s honour — a tribute to the meaningful difference Amanda made in Karinna’s recovery journey from a C-section. That poem soon blossomed into a song, one Karinna now sings to her baby, weaving Amanda’s kindness into their daily lives.
Recently, Karinna and her daughter returned to the Brightshores Owen Sound Hospital to visit Amanda and personally thank her for the excellent care she provided to them. Their reunion was filled with emotion, gratitude and music — a beautiful testament to the lasting impact nurses in the Women & Child Care Unit have on the families they serve.
Karinna hopes her song will shine a light on the vital role nurses play and inspire others to recognize the quiet heroes behind every birth story.
