Each year at Brightshores Health System our teams prepare and present their projects to be considered for a Quality Award. These awards celebrate the creativity and clinical excellence of our teams at Brightshores.
Quality Award recipients are selected based on the project’s success, which is measured against Brightshores’ strategic pillars.

WCCU RN Surgical Assist for Labour & Delivery: Supporting Emergency C-Sections
Our Women & Child Care Unit is based in Owen Sound and serves Grey Bruce. The new Registered Nurse Surgical Assist Program enables specially trained nurses to support emergency cesarean births working alongside obstetricians. This program improves the safety of giving birth while also providing our nurses with unique professional development opportunities that expand their expertise.
Wellness & Recovery Centre: Responding to the Mental Health and Addiction Crisis
The Wellness & Recovery Centre opened in June 2024 in a repurposed former school in Owen Sound to support individuals from across the region with addiction and mental health needs. The centre provides stable housing while individuals with complex needs receive treatment and begin the recovery journey – with many programs and services provided under one roof. Reducing the number of 30-day readmissions and Emergency Departments visits for substance use are among the positive impacts of this new centre.
Mental Health & Addictions Central Referral & Navigation Line: Connecting People to Care
Knowing where to go for care can be confusing. The new Mental Health & Addictions Central Referral Team and Navigation Line were introduced to help guide people to the most appropriate services. With one phone call, clients or their loved ones are connected to navigators who will direct them to the resource that best fits their needs. This service is available to all communities across our region and callers may be referred to a service offered at Brightshores or to another local community provider.
