Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, this position is responsible for managing software environments, interfaces and writing custom reports.  In close collaboration with fellow IT staff members and users, the Interface Systems Analyst’s emphasis will be on understanding database structure and performing database retrieval for the purpose of creating reports and designing, implementing and enhancing Cerner system interfaces using Millennium Open Engine, CCL and HL7 protocols.  All roles are essential in providing a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and others by ensuring that health and safety policies are followed.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • 3 year college level or university degree in Computer Sciences
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience programming from a DBMS
  • Experience with writing, maintaining and troubleshooting custom scripts and code, in a variety of programming languages
  • Knowledge of database concepts, practices, and procedures including understanding of database structure and retrieval, table joins, indexing, etc. (to be tested)
  • Experience with multi-platform systems (Windows/Unix) and command line tools
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
  • Ability and willingness to continually upgrade technical skills
  • Experience writing custom reports and scripts (to be tested)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple conflicting demands
  • Proven self-starter with sound judgment and decision making ability with evidence of innovative, critical and logical thinking
  • Meticulous planning and successful completion and support of highly complex projects including design, written change control processes, test scripts, and implementation of change and supporting documentation
  • Experience with HL7 Specifications, Foreign Systems Interface Design, Development and Support
  • Experience with Cerner Open Engine and Cerner Command Language (CCL)
  • Diplomacy, tact and ability to negotiate deliverables with user community and colleagues
  • Ability to explain technical matters to non-technical staff members
  • Advocate for change to an electronic environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of health service integration
  • Demonstrated customer service and responsiveness required
  • Flexibility in hours of work as needed
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and use of vehicle to support travel
  • Ability to travel off-site and internationally
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
