STATUS: FULL-TIME, TEMPORARY (APPROX. END DATE JUNE 2024)
WAGE RATE: $39.07 – $56.00

Reporting to the Manager, the Registered Nurse in the Operating Room, Surgical Day Care and Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit is responsible for the supportive, preventative, therapeutic care needs of patients in the perioperative arenas.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

Required

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
  • Successful completion of the Operating Room certificate and/or at least 2 years OR experience in the last 3 years
  • Successful completion of the Post Anaesthetic Course within the last 3 years
  • Minimum 2 years PACU nursing experience within the past 5 years
  • 2 years’ recent acute care nursing experience
  • Physical Assessment Course or equivalent
  • Coronary Care Certificate I or equivalent
  • PACU Certificate
  • Certification in Pneumatic Tourniquet
  • Current certification in:
    • BCLS
    • venipuncture to start an IV
    • IV meds below the drip chamber
    • ACLS
    • PALS
  • Demonstrated computer skills in MS Outlook and Cerner applications (PowerChart and SurgiNet) or equivalent
  • Ability to scrub and circulate in all services
  • Knowledge of the current ORNAC standards
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
  • Ability to function as a team member
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to flex time to meet unit’s needs
  • Current experience with Surginet
  • Broad surgical experience required
  • Willingness to cross train and be scheduled in Day Surgery, PACU and Amb Care
  • Excellent assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
