POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health Services, the Registered Nurse (RN) will implement services meeting the needs of individuals with mental health and addiction illnesses utilizing Recovery Principles.  The RN must be able to work independently and as a member of a multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively with multiple services.  This position may require travel within the counties of Grey and Bruce.  The main responsibility is to the work of the Crisis Support Program with the understanding the RN may be deployed to support other Mental Health Teams within the department, as required. In keeping with a client-focused philosophy, the functions of this role are to assist our clients and your co-workers in achieving positive outcomes in a safe and therapeutic environment.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Current Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
  • Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized Community College
  • Recent psychiatric nursing experience within the past three years
  • Working knowledge of Mental Health Act, Substitute Decision Makers Act, HCCA and the DSM-IV-R
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct psychosocial and psychiatric assessment including a risk assessment
  • Knowledge of community resources and navigation of broader mental health system
  • Demonstrates an ability to think critically and respond effectively to emergent situations
  • Ability to provide a brief solution-focused therapy modality as well as support, advocacy and education services to patients and as needed to their support person(s)
  • Valid CPI course
  • Experience in medication delivery
  • Excellent leadership, problem solving, decision making, organizational and patient assessment skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated
  • Plan, develop and conduct inpatient groups
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a multi-disciplinary team setting
  • Ability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays
  • Commitment to continuing education
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
