WAGE RATE: $37.93 – $54.37

Reporting to the Manager, Woman and Child Care, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation.  The RN is responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for Paediatric and ICN patients based on established evidence based care standards.  The RN serves in the Resource Nurse role when oriented and as directed by the Manager. The RN utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. The RN contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

Required:

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration or eligibility
  • BCLS Certification
  • NRP Certification
  • Competency in Paediatrics and Level II Nursery
  • Able to work independently in level IIB NICU
  • Completion of Breast Feeding Certificate (to be completed within 1 year)
  • Experienced in providing breast feeding support to moms of pre-term and term infants
  • First Segment of a normal Mother/Baby Perinatal course (to be completed within 2 years)
  • Central line care – including ability to access ports, PICC care, tubing, dressing changes and blood sampling (to be completed within 1 year)
  • Recent Paediatric/ICN experience within the last 5 years
  • Recent Surgical experience within the last 5 years
  • Recent Mother Infant Care within the last 5 years
  • Experience in neonatal venipuncture to establish an IV on Neonates,
  • Venipuncture/IV starts on Children and Adults
  • IV medications below the drip chamber
  • Management and care of P.C.A. pumps
  • Ability to provide and promote family-centered care
  • Self-directed and an ability to work with minimal supervision required
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing population and patient assessment skills
  • Leadership, problem-solving, decision-making, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to escort high risk neonatal/paediatric patients via Ambulance Services
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Interviewing and patient assessment skills
  • Interest and experience in patient education (adult learning skills to teach parent skills an asset)
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and continuing education
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Completion of Post Diploma Neonatal Nursing course
  • Completion of Post Diploma Paediatric Assessment Course
