DEPARTMENT: MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES – ADDICTION TREATMENT SERVICES

STATUS: FULL-TIME
WAGE RATE: $30.230 – $31.175 

The RPN functions as a member of a multi-disciplinary Mental Health and Addictions care team to provide assessment, individual and group counselling to people struggling with addiction. This position is initially part of the Withdrawal Management Services and may need to provide service throughout Grey and Bruce counties. This position is a member of the Mental Health and Addictions Department and as such may be assigned to another program as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
  • Completion of a Psychiatric Nursing education program
  • Familiarity with principles and practice of the Recovery Model as well as case management and rehabilitation
  • Extensive knowledge of current best practices in the treatment of substance abuse and concurrent disorders for individuals and families
  • Psycho/social and mental status assessment skills
  • Ability to provide a wide range of counselling, support, advocacy and education services to family members and others of significance in the client’s life
  • Ability to communicate positively and professionally with family members, community providers and physicians on a one to one or group basis
  • Minimum two years’ experience working in outpatient mental health and/or addiction services
  • Knowledge of DSM-V and Mental Health Act
  • Access to reliable transportation – travel throughout Grey and Bruce Counties is required
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and personal reliable vehicle
  • Ability to work closely as a member of a team and share responsibilities
  • Knowledge of medication side effects and coping strategies
  • Ability to co-ordinate multiple interests to provide quality patient care
  • Ability to problem solve and make effective decisions during highly stressful and potentially violent emergency situations
  • Experience in medication delivery
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and integrate them into practice
  • Ability to work all shifts
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
