POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Medical Imaging and Cardiology, the Registered Technologist-Special’s key responsibilities include performing Ultrasound examinations; monitoring/adjusting equipment to ensure high quality images and a safe working environment on all shifts/call.  The Registered Technologist – Special provides instruction to patients before and during examinations and assesses relevance of the examination based on patient clinical history.  It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain competency in the ultrasound examinations required and performed within the department.  Duties are conducted in accordance with the Standards of Practice of Sonography Canada CRGS, ARDMS and CMRTO eligible.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • 3 year community college or undergraduate degree
  • Current registered or eligible with Sonography Canada and ARDMS
  • Member of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario
  • Working knowledge of the Standards of Practice of Sonography Canada/ARDMS
  • Current certification in Abdomen, Obs/Gyn, Physics, Small Parts. Technical experience in Neuro, Breast, and Venous/Carotid Doppler Studies
  • Proven interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with patients and staff
  • Responsible for documenting technical impressions and notifying Radiologist regarding urgent findings
  • Demonstrated ability in the following competencies: initiative/self-management, problem solving and accountability
  • Able to identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team
  • Positive advocate for professional body of Ultrasound and the Imaging Department
  • Advanced Computer Skills with PACS experience
  • Able to work all shifts including standby as required and multisite coverage
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred

  • Certification in Vascular studies and Nuchal Translucency 11 – 13 weeks
  • Experience in MSK and interventional studies
  • Sterile Technique
