POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager of Medical Imaging and Cardiology, the Medical Radiation Technologist’s (MRT) key responsibilities include: performing MRI examinations on patients using a to obtain information which assists with patient diagnosis and treatment.  The MRI Technologist provides instruction to patients before and during examinations and assesses relevance of the examination based on patient clinical history.  It is the responsibility of the incumbent to maintain competency in the MRI examinations required and performed within the department. Duties are conducted in accordance with the Standards of Practice of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario and the Health Professionals Act.

Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:

Required

  • Current registration with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario in MRI
  • Current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists or eligible for registration
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging Diploma
  • Working knowledge of the Standards of Practice of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario, MRI section, and the Health Professionals Act
  • Proven knowledge of MRI safety to act as a resource to technologists and other staff
  • Proven interpersonal skills to successfully communicate with patients and staff
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, conflict management and organizational skills
  • Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement solutions
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and co-operatively as part of a team
  • Positive advocate for professional body of MRI & the Imaging Department
  • Current CPR certification
  • Michener IV injection course or equivalent
  • Ability to work all shifts, including weekends; ability for call and multi-site coverage when required
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records

Preferred

  • CAMRT; Registration
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year technical experience in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging department
