Construction of the new Markdale Hospital is now 35% complete and running on schedule.
Roofing is now underway. This is a major milestone in the project, and one worth celebrating. Once the roof is complete, the interior construction will be in full swing. The steelwork continues, and the steel decking is almost complete. The steel studs are up in some sections of the basement level, which means the drywall will be next. Electrical and plumbing is also being roughed in on the basement level.
Once the new hospital opens to the public in late 2023, the current hospital’s building will be vacant and available for other purposes. Brightshores will be issuing an expression of interest to obtain community feedback on the future uses of the property. Ministry approval will be required to move forward with the usage of the old site once it has been decided.
