Procedure done at Brightshores Health System is considered one of the three most complex surgical cases from around the globe.

Dr. Rami Shasha, an Ophthalmologist from Brightshores Health System, entered the international video competition to showcase one of the most complex surgical cases that he performs. Dr. Shasha has since been notified that he was selected as one of three global winners. He will travel to San Francisco where he will join the other two surgeons whose videos were selected, to present his case at the American Academy of Ophthalmology at the annual meeting in November.

“We wish to congratulate Dr. Shasha on this incredible accomplishment,” says Cara Singh, Director of Surgical Services at Brightshores, “and to further recognize that he is a very gifted surgeon who goes above and beyond to further the practice of Ophthalmologic surgery. We are so fortunate that Rami works in this region, as part of the exceptional team at Brightshores Health System.”

Dr. Shasha shared that “this recognition would not be possible without the great team that we have here at this hospital. I consider myself fortunate to be able to work with a highly-trained nursing team.  This accomplishment is reflective of the growing resources we have at Brightshores that allow our team to help these complex patients.”

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is an internationally recognized association whose mission is to protect sight and empower lives by serving as an advocate for patients and the public, leading ophthalmic education, and advancing the profession of ophthalmology.  Watch for more news to come on Dr. Shasha, following the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting.
