Brightshores Health System proudly announces the accomplishments of Dr. Rami Shasha, MD, FRCSC, DABO, a highly skilled Cataract, Refractive, and Complex Anterior Segment Surgeon, at the recent annual American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) surgery meeting.

Dr. Shasha made significant contributions to the conference by presenting two research papers that have the potential to revolutionize patient care. His first paper explored the comparison of Yamane Intrascleral Haptic Fixation and Iris Suture Fixation, providing valuable insights into their effectiveness and applications. His second paper focused on the J&J ZA9003 intraocular lens for the Yamane technique, offering new perspectives on the use of this particular lens. Both presentations were well-received by industry experts and attendees.

In addition to his research presentations, Dr. Shasha participated in a global surgical video competition, where he emerged as the winner for his development of a new surgical instrument called the “Shasha Shield”. Dr. Shasha spent the past year developing and designing this instrument. This inventive surgical tool has been instrumental in protecting delicate structures of the eye during complex cases in the operating room.

All of these achievements highlight the supportive and innovative environment fostered at Brightshores Health System. Dr. Shasha acknowledges the invaluable support of his colleagues, especially when it comes to introducing new equipment in the OR.

Brightshores Health System commends Dr. Shasha’s dedication to advancing the field of ophthalmology and his commitment to providing exceptional care to his patients. Cara Singh, Director of Surgical Services and Women & Child Care at Brightshores states, “This amazing accomplishment is just one step in Dr. Shasha’s exciting career. He is always in search of solutions to problems and finds innovative ways to improve ophthalmologic care for our patients, which is the key to his success. Developing new instrumentation is an amazing achievement!”
