Accessibility FAQs

Is there Accessible parking available at all Brightshores Health System hospital locations?

Meaford & Owen Sound
In addition to designated Accessible parking spots within our Visitor parking lots, the Meaford and Owen Sound Hospitals have Accessible “Pick-Up / Drop-Off” parking spots available with a 1 hour time limit near the front entrance of the hospital.

Wiarton
In addition to designated Accessible parking spots within our Visitor parking lot the Wiarton hospital has three, 15 min “Pick-Up / Drop-Off” spots to the left of the entrance which are not specifically signed as Accessible.

Lion’s Head
There are two Accessible spots available at the Lion’s Head hospital. No time limits apply to these spots.

Southampton
Southampton has free municipal street parking spots, two of which are designated as Accessible spots. No time limits apply.

Markdale
Markdale has free municipal street parking spots; two of which are designated as Accessible spots, as well as one Accessible “Pick-Up / Drop-Off” parking spot. No time limits apply.

Where are the wheelchairs?

Wheelchairs are located inside of the Main Entrance at all of our hospitals and inside of the Emergency department areas. Visitors and patients are asked to return wheelchairs to these locations to ensure they are available for other patients.

Will someone be available to help me into the hospital?

Volunteers are available to assist patients and visitors at each hospital during the weekday. Volunteers can help with directions and additional supports that you may require. However, they are not routinely available to assist patients in and out of vehicles in our parking lots and front entrances so you are encouraged to bring a support person with you if this type of assistance is required.

Where are the accessible and family washrooms?

Each hospital has an accessible washroom available for use on the main floor, with the exception of our Markdale hospital. Our wheelchair washroom at the Markdale hospital does not have an automatic door so assistance is required to enter and exit.

Can I bring my service animal to the hospital with me?
Service animals are permitted inside of all Brightshores hospitals.
